I remember trying to find myself a costume when I was pregnant with my daughter. It isn't always easy! Good thing us Costumechiks are full of ideas! I dressed up my lovely (and very pregnant) co-worker Roseanne for your viewing pleasure. Here's what we came up with!
We Costumechiks tend to add more things to our costumes then what comes in the package. For this particular look, we added a pretty petticoat since the costume was a little too short for Roseanne's comfort. We also added a headband that we liked better (she has so much hair that the little one that came with the costume was just lost on her!) Want a mask? This beautiful Venetian number matches perfectly!
Want something a little different? Check out this Witch costume!
If you wanted to jazz it up a little more, have a look at this costume make up wheel, or add a giant hat!
If you need help choosing something, let us know! We at Costumechik.com are here to help.
Choosing a Halloween costume can be very easy if you stick to the normal sources, like books and movies. What is Halloween without characters? But what if you want something different? I have a few ideas for you.
The first costume is a Ghost ship. While everyone else is a pirate, you could be the whole ship! Also works in a group costume setting. Take a look at some spooky ghost make up to make the perfect addition!
The Pez Dispenser is hilarious! This costume is awesome, especially when you read the history of it right here. (You may want to fill your pockets with candy.)
Now, for you tall people out there, this spooky haunted tree is just the costume. It works well on it's own, as part of a haunted house, or in a group Halloween costume setting! Remember to paint your face brown!
Here are three more awesome selections to help make your Halloween costume a hit! An Apple with a worm is cute, and perfect for a Party where there will be children. Popping out of a cake would be awesome for a birthday party as well as Halloween! Ganja Mon is perfect for that party where you want to push the envelope a little.
On a limited costume budget? Costumechik can work with you. Even a wig can help make your costume special! Let us know what look you're going for and we can make suggestions. We're your online Halloween Shop!
The Devil is a pretty ambiguous character, but with some help from us Costumechiks, we can put together an outfit to bring out the right Devil in everybody. Dig deep inside and think about how you would want your devil costume to be. As always with Halloween costumes, there are so many ways to put them together and costumes are always better when adding your own special touches. To determine what kind of devil you want to be, start with your costume party mask options to set a tone for the rest of your costume. There are some amazing devil costume masks available and these are an easy and very cool way to start the creation of your devil
My personal favorite is the venetian 'Diavolo' mask, pictured on the left. I'm quite partial to the venetian masks, and I like the mystery it would lend to your Devil costume. If you want a creepier Devil Costume, try the full faced Demon mask. (I bet nobody would try to pick a fight with you!).
Maybe a mask just isn't your thing. If not, you can always use costume make up and prosthetics! Prosthetics (latex pieces you apply directly to your skin) may seem to be challenging and too difficult for the average Halloween costume partier, but you would be surprised how easy they are to do ... and the effect is amazing. This is an interesting way to dress up your Devil costume because the prosthetics move with your face as you talk, giving you an eerie realistic touch. You can do basic make-up, you can just do devil horns or you can add more and even do a full devil costume face.
Then, it's the costume. You've got lots to choose from, whether it is a men's devil costume robe, a sexy ladies devil costume, or anything ghoulish, you can complete your devil costume anyway you like. Add a touch of your personality and get creative with the costume part.
One of the perks of dressing up like the Devil is that you can add as much or as little to your costume as you want. If your Halloween celebrations are in Canada, this is a bonus, as October is usually freezing!
Another perk with choosing The Devil to be your costume - you can go matching! Devils make great couples costumes, whether it is two devils, or perhaps an angel and a devil!
Remember to add your own touches to the costume, really make it yours! Need any help? Contact us! We at Costumechik.com love to help.
Hats have been an accessory for hundreds of years, used both as an costume accessory and for practical purposes.
"Short of a crown worn by royalty, the top hat is without a doubt one of the grandest of all forms of head wear. Lord Ribblesdale set the precedent for the fellow top hat wearers in his famous John Singer Sargent portrait. He looked rich, he looked powerful, grand, strong, and noble - every fantastic word one could imagine or use to describe the man in this towering high hat.
The top hat wasn't simply to be strewn upon the head; it was to be worn tilted at 10 degrees, and no more than 10 degrees in either direction. This shows the importance and emphasis on refinement this hat holds, in how it must be worn properly.
The top hat was designed and first worn by John Hetherington, a London men's clothing maker, in the 1840's. It was evident from the very start that the top hat wasn't simply any ordinary hat. The first time John Hetherington wore the hat in public, women screamed and fainted, and crowds gathered. It caused an absolute uproar which led to his arrest and subsequent fine of £50, an absolute fortune in those days. A law was also passed forbidding anybody to wear the top hat in public on the grounds it scared timid people.
The actual concept of the top hat is thought to of sprang up from the remarkably similar riding hat; a hat round and cylindrical, except flat. John Hetherington simply added to the height and size of the brim giving it an appearance so grand and statuesque it would symbolize status for all noblemen for many years to come." -Roger Banbury- Ezine
Top Hats are still the most fashionable of hats, and thanks to creative designers, they come in all kinds of colours and variations. You can find a top hat to match just about any occasion!
These are just a few of the exciting costume options. These hats are wild enough that you could build your costume around them!
Perhaps you need some inspiration? These famous top hat wearers have a cult following all their own!
Top hats aren't just for Halloween costumes. Use them for Birthdays, 80's Parties, dressing up for a night on the town, and much more!

It isn't as scary as you think to add cool components to your Halloween Costume, to give it that extra authentic touch. All it takes is a little patience and practice, and you can have that costume contest in your back pocket before anyone else even knows what hit them! Halloween Makeup might seem intimidating especially when you add special touchs like prothetics - latex pieces that add extra halloween costume goodness.
Remember this guy? Frankenstein - an oldie but a goodie! See how much more realistic he can be with prosthetic bolts and wicked makeup?
How might one go about making this look a reality, you ask? Well, we here I am to help you out!
First you will need Spirit Gum.
Spirit Gum is used as a theatrical adhesive to apply wigs, beards, and other costume prosthetics (such as the bolts). For a project like this one, you probably want the 1/2 Oz Spirit Gum size. The key to using Spirit gum is to apply it, let it dry slightly (until sticky) and then install the prothetic. Once your Halloween prosthetic is installed, you can add theatrical makeup to complete the look. Spirit gum can be removed with Spirit gum remover or mineral oil - the oil breaks down the glue.
Second you will need Theatrical or Costume Makeup
Graftobian, one of our favourite makers of costume makeup, makes something called Character Makeup Wheels. To get Frankenstein's ghoulish look, I recommend the Mummy Wheel. It comes with 4 different colours - 1/2 oz ghost Grey creme foundation, and 1/8 oz each of thunder Grey, bleached bone, and black creme foundations. It also must be removed with a make up remover or mineral oil, so it doesn't stain your skin. There is another cool component to the this particular makeup wheel. They come with something called tooth wax - dip a finger in, and rub it all over your teeth. Now you should have nice disgusting brown teeth worthy of any monster costume. *Not recommended for first dates!
And, one of the great things about Graftobian makeup is that they come with step by step instructions. Have no idea what you're doing? They've got that covered. Plus the kit comes with enough make up for you to have a test run before the big night.
Now, complete your Frankenstein Costume
Add a tattered jacket and pants, and practice your Frankenstein walk. Take a tip from this guy.

Hola ladies! Doing a sexy photo shoot with your friends is possibly one of the funnest things you can do on a Friday or Saturday night. Lots of women do this - either with friends taking the pictures or with a professional photographer. What kinds of costume pieces would you need for such a night? That would all depend on which side of yourself you want to bring out.
I'd say, the standard ingredients for a successful sexy photo shoot would be:
Feather Boa
Long Gloves
Sexy Shoes
Feather Boas - Feather boas have been documented for use as a costume adornment since at least 1820 but they might have been worn as early as the 17th century. Feather boas have fallen in and out of fashion many times over the years. Feather boas have had the reputation of being elegant as well as being considered campy or vulgar apparel. Feather boas automatically bring out the sultry side in any woman!
Long Gloves - While gloves have been worn for nearly three thousand years, the garment we know as the opera glove seems to have first evolved in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Queen Elizabeth I of England is reported as wearing an 18-inch-long pair of white leather gauntlets, with two inches of gold fringe, at a ceremony at Oxford in 1566. With all that Regal history, no wonder a woman feels instantly glam when she pulls a pair on!
Sexy Shoes (Or Boots!). Now, I don't think I have to give you any sort of history as to WHY people wear shoes, but the right shoe will top off any look, costume or otherwise. These ones are called "Seduce" and probably one of the all time favourites at CostumeChik.com. Consider some fabulous tall lace-up boots or something fun like Go-Go boots!
If you want to kick it up a notch, get yourself a sexy costume, too!
If you want to do a fun shoot and don't know where to start, contact us! We Costumechiks are not just your Online Halloween Shop - Great costumes aren't just for Halloween, they're for all the time!
Star Trek - Old School, Next Generation and remakes - it's all good, and the variations, whether TV or movies, have inspired many to seek out our favorite Trekkie costume at some point. (I personally have a thing for Spock... and have gone as "Chick Spock" before!). Whichever one is your favorite character, we at Costumechik.com can help you out. Probably the most popular would be Captain James T. Kirk, but consider Lt. Ohura, Scotty, the USS Enterprise's engineer or Cpt. McCoy (Bones), the ship's doctor.
Star Trek costumes are fantastic choices for Halloween, retro parties, space themed events, Comic or Entertainment conventions or what the heck, grocery shopping! Come on, lots of people wear costumes to grocery shop in Canada.
Check out these costume uniforms. They are pretty straightforward, letting you choose your character with ease! All you need to provide is black pants! These are the officially licensed Star Trek men's costume shirts.
Here's the uber cute Ladies Star Trek uniforms. I adore them. Perhaps you want to add those cute Black boots? We have something similar if you want to spice it up a little.
No matter which character you choose, make it your own and have fun! Need help? Contact us! We Costumechiks are here to help you look your best!
I am surrounded by costumes, costume accessories, make up, costume shoes, glasses, crowns and tiaras, capes - you name it, we have it! Once you spend every day with this stuff, some of it tends to become background. I have never found this with our leather masks. Every single time I walk by them, I have to pause and admire and appreciate them, and figure which one I just HAVE to add to my collection next.
Each and every mask is painstakingly hand crafted by a gentleman named Vincent Ur. First inspired by Mardi Gras, he began making masks for the pure enjoyment of it, drawing from an art and literature background for his inspiration. Out of this he has created hundreds of different unique designs and has handmade thousands of masks. If you have ever had the pleasure of wearing one of these masks, you will have seen the love and attention he puts into every creation. He signs and numbers every single one! I can't choose a favorite. I am excited for the Zodiac sign collection - he hasn't completed all of the signs yet, but the ones he has (The Leo is one of them) are fabulous! Not sure what to do with it after the party? Hang it on the wall! Some of our customers buy them for that reason alone. Need help choosing a mask for an event? We Costumechiks would love to help you out. Contact us! Enjoy choosing your mask!
At least once in your life, you should dress up like royalty. It doesn't matter what the occasion is, you deserve to have the experience of feeling like a princess! I know this is just my humble opinion, but there's nothing like being dressed up in a beautiful costume to make a girl feel like royalty!
You don't necessarily need to be a traditional Princess. Check out these awesome costume ideas! At least two of these costumes have Princess right in the name. You could choose a Greek Queen costume (Goddess), or an Arabian Princess costume like the one that Jasmine wore or the super sexy Princess Leia slave girl costume.
Princesses from Fairytales aren't the right costume you say? Well how about these? Beautiful Medieval costumes are regal and fun to wear. Great for a feast, Renaissance Faire, costume party or Halloween.
Now all you need is some costume accessories and some costume make up to make it your very own! Still unsure of what you want? Contact us! We at Costumechik.com like to help transform people into princesses. It's what we do best!
Just in! We are excitedly opening up boxes and boxes of new costumes that have arrived at CostumeChik.com. I am really happy to say that amongst all of the new items that are here, there are all kinds of great retro costumes for adults.
This one might be my current favourite (warning: could change tomorrow... there is so much great new stuff). This is a retro 80's pop star costume modeled after the now famous cone bustier worn by Madonna. It includes the gold lame lace-up bustier and black mini-skirt. You can see in the close up of the bustier that the cone 'cups' are quite pronounced, exaggerated, like the one that Madonna wore during her Blond Ambition tour.
To complete this particular 80s look, we would recommend some seriously overdone make-up, fishnet stockings and attitude! You could also add some bright colour spray to your hair and some bangle bracelets.
Going to a retro party? CostumeChik thinks you should 'Open Your Heart' to this Madonna-style conical bra costume.
"Can't sleep - Clowns will eat me!" If you're a Simpsons fan then I'm sure you remember this line! From Krusty the Clown to Pennywise From Stephen King's IT, there a range of Clown styles and costumes to suit anyone.
Clowns are comical performers, stereotypically characterized by their grotesque appearance: colored wigs, stylistic make-up, outlandish costumes, unusually large footwear, red-nose, etc., who entertain spectators by acting in a hilarious fashion. The types of their acts varies greatly. Although some find clowns to be scary, their intended purpose is to entertain people, especially young children.
These particular clowns would give anybody nightmares, so if that's your goal for Halloween this year, be sure to add in some fake blood and gore for effect! Probably best for adult costume parties, could be too traumatic for handing out candy to the trick 'n treaters on Halloween night.
These Clowns are a nice example of the classic costume look. With some colourful make up, Clown hair and your own antics, you can have fun carnival clowns in no time! Don't forget to add shoes for extra silliness! These costumes are great adult Halloween costumes for parties or for Halloween candy giving.
If you need any help picking out a costume, contact us! We Costumechiks are here to help, right here in Canada!
I'm not entirely sure how it works everywhere else in the world, but Halloween in Canada has become a HUGE event. All kinds of costumes are dug out of the closet, made and purchased! When I was a kid, there were probably about 4 standard costumes. Clown, Witch, Vampire, and Ghost (sheet with holes).
The history of Halloween is pretty interesting.
Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom as well as of Australia and New Zealand.
Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced "sah-win").
The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. Samhain was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare for winter. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops.
Following suit with a scary costume is easy here at Costumechik.com. Check it out!

All right, I admit it. I am one of THOSE Moms. I like to (occasionally) match my daughter. We have a few matching sweaters and pajama sets, but my favorite things to wear with her is costumes. Just like any Mom, I happen to think my kid is adorable and I LOVE taking her out in costume. I've had the honor of being her Mom for 3 years now, and through that time I have put her in a million different costumes.
These adorable Ladybug costumes are an example of the amazing array Costumechik carries! My daughter and I went to a party in the summer dressed like this, and people were just in love with us! Both costumes are comfortable and quite stretchy, and while my wings are worn like a backpack, hers attach to velcro on the back for easy wear.
This beautiful set was worn to a medieval costume wedding. The material is a medium weight, so they can be comfortable both in the chilly elements and the warmer ones. I always find that my little one gets really excited when she gets to dress just like Mommy, and is more likely to keep her costume on (right down to the little crown!).
Great costumes aren't just for Halloween! Have an event you want to go to? Need to match your spouse/kid/pet? Contact us! We're here to help.
I have a lot of fun being surrounded by costumes all day, but I must admit, I am pretty partial to the Leg Avenue line. These adult costumes are awesome quality and fit really well. You have quite the range to choose from - savage to sexy to sweet!
Every costume is designed with lots of care. With the Magic Mushroom Alice, you can totally tell that somebody put a lot of effort into every detail. She comes complete with stockings (that feature adorable blue bows with tiny mushrooms!) the dress (the black part is patterned with the same tiny blue mushrooms) and unique arm bands that look like they are attached, but they aren't! She even comes with a choker that matches the vest portion. A unique twist on the regular Alice in Wonderland costume for sure!
And what about this fabulous Warrior Goddess costume? From this picture you can see the beautiful gold detailing that is all over the bodice of the costume, which gives it an authentic armor look. The bodice is a faux leather (you'd never be able to tell) and it's backless. What I really like the most about this costume is the sides. They lace up to just under your arm, and that peek-a-boo effect, paired with the open back is a stunning combination. Add those lace-up gauntlets and it's a "killer" costume!
Shall I go on? They also have legwear and stockings, super cute ruffle bum shorts, and costumes that come in Plus sizes! The two costumes I have picked to tell you about are ones that my co-workers and I actually have. My shy friend told me that she feels amazing when she puts on her Warrior Goddess, because it gives her a reason to be a little more brazen. We love the Magic Mushroom Alice because it's just so unique from anything else we've seen, and people flip over it when they see it.

Here it is well in to March of 2010, I know that there are lots of people already looking forward to Halloween! Am I right? Of course, I am. So what will your Halloween Costume be, Canada? Please share, use the comment section below and tell us what great Halloween Costume ideas you have.
So what are some of 2010's great inspirations for Halloween costumes. Have to start with celebrities. Will Tiger Woods still trend? I have a funny feeling the answer is yes. I saw a few things at the costume trade shows with names like "Cheetah," convenient play on words. How would you portray a cheating golf celebrity as a Halloween costume? What other celebrities will inspire Halloween costumes this year? Michael Jackson will probably still be popular, what do you think?
Movies and TV shows are always a great source of inspiration for Halloween costumes in Canada too. I suspect we will see quite a number of people painted blue this year (some may even look like Neyteri!). The Na'vi characters from Avatar would actually be quite fun to create, a little bit of modeling wax and a whole bunch of blue makeup and glitter and you could create a really interesting character for this Halloween. Alice in Wonderland is sure to inspire some Halloween costumes this year ... Johnny Depp movies generally do (Tim Burton too). I expect to see a wonderful variety of Mad Hatter interpretations, how would you create the Mad Hatter? Or the March Hare, Alice herself, the Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat? Is it the clothing part of the costume that is important, or the make-up, or is it how you embody the character that makes the costume outstanding?
Need inspiration? Surf the thousands of costumes and accessories available to buy online in Canada at CostumeChik.com. Need some help finding the unique pieces that will make your costume special, call the friendlies at CostumeChik.com, we will try to help. 1-888-236-5459.
Tell us what you think, Canada! What will your Halloween costume be for 2010?
Indiana Jones: OSS agent, professor of archeology, and adventure master!
In 2008, Indiana Jones was ranked as the 6th greatest movie character of all time by Empire magazine. Since his first appearance in Raiders Of The Lost Ark Indiana Jones has become a worldwide favourite. In 2009, he stood as #2 on Time's greatest fictional characters of all time list, surpassed only by Sherlock Holmes.
I find that a lot of men like this Halloween costume, because it's an easy costume to put together! Indiana Jones has a recognizable classic look - a bullwhip, a brown Fedora, and a leather jacket. People would instantly know who you are, (although looking like Harrison Ford helps too). There is an officially licensed men's Indiana Jones costume that includes the khaki pants, brown Fedora and faux leather jacket. All you need is the whip, one of the biggest selling costume accessories that we have!
Want to make your costume even better? Immerse yourself in the character, get to know things that he knows and some of his peculiarities too! Particularly notable facets of the Indiana Jones character include his sense of humor, deep knowledge of many ancient civilizations and languages, and fear of snakes. Also available: Indiana Jones Halloween costumes for children and Indiana Jones Halloween costumes for pets! Check out all of the Indiana Jones related costumes and accessories at CostumeChik.com.
